“Trailer” Talk: Prim-O-Rama

Okay, people! Let’s talk about that “For Prim” trailer!

**SPOILERS GALORE!**

Starting with this question: IS IT REALLY EVEN A MOCKINGJAY PART 2 TRAILER?

Yes, it’s over two minutes long and it hints at the importance of Katniss and Prim in the final movie. But it’s only got a few seconds of footage from Mockingjay Part 2! Ninety-seven percent of this sucker is a recap of the previous movies! Isn’t it most of a promo or a sister-centric franchise trailer than anything?

If you’re not sure, watch again and decide for yourself!

Perhaps it’s an unpopular opinion but we’re just gonna go out there and say it: This one just didn’t get to us.

We know the final movie really needs to emphasize the importance of Prim so fans really feel the loss of Prim as something horrific. We struggled with this in both the books and the movies. We get that Katniss loves Prim dearly but we were never felt invested in her personally. Don’t get us wrong– It’s sad that she dies! We see Katniss mourn and we mourn for her, because anyone can imagine the pain of losing someone close to them. When we watch the movie, we’ll probably get a bit emotional when it happens. But in the meantime, this is kinda just feels like stalling without actually giving us new things from the movie.

Visually, this is a fun experience. The smoky, blended images lend a really unique look to this, but it sometimes reminds us of a good fan-made video or a music video rather than an actual studio-made trailer for a major franchise. But we suppose that’s a compliment to fan video creators, right?!

REMINDER: Fragile 12-year-old is fragile.

REMINDER: Fragile 12-year-old is fragile.

The song, however, kills it. In a bad way. M83 is a talented group and I think most of their songs are a great choice for films and film promotion, but this doesn’t work for us here. It’s properly moody, but the random yell-y bits in between nostalgic dialogue were super jarring and took us right out of the moment.

Of course, it also comes back to another big question: IS THIS A GIANT SPOILER?

We don’t think all unfamiliar audiences will see this trailer and immediately know that Prim is going to die, but it certainly raises red flags. We’ve all seen enough movies to know that when a relationship that’s NOT romantic is emphasized, something significant is about to happen to them. More often than not, one of the people involved is about to die. And this focuses very specifically on Prim– not on family, not on District 12. It’s Prim-o-rama!

Not to mention the cyclical clusterfuck of a “possible spoiler” warning inadvertently making people aware enough to look for said possible spoilers when they wouldn’t have found them otherwise.

So Lionsgate going “SISTERS ARE IMPORTANT, Y’ALL!” doesn’t quite guarantee death, but it hints at death well enough. They likely made the trailer with the diehard types in mind, but we diehards also like the unfiltered, unspoiled reactions of the non-book reading masses on occasion!

The Mockingjay Part 2 Trailer Will Blow Your Fandom-Loving Mind

The countdown is over! The trailer is here! IT IS OFFICIALLY TIME TO FLIP OUT!

It’s been two weeks since the first full Mockingjay Part 2 trailer was previewed at Comic-Con (that previous 2 minute preview was considered a “teaser”) and now, the rest of us are finally getting a glimpse of the action. And damn, is there action! We were pretty psyched with the last trailer, but Katniss and her crew have never been more intense than what we’re getting here!

Expect a full trailer breakdown soon. Today we’ll be too busy watching and re-watching to firmly express our thoughts without melting into fangirl mode!

What do you think of this latest trailer?!

Joy and The Dressmaker

With all the promotion coming out just now, sometimes we don’t totally remember that Mockingjay filming is loooooong over and the cast has since moved on and filmed other projects– Movies that will come out not longer after Mockingjay Part 2, even.

…And then, BOOM! TRAILERS!

First comes Jennifer Lawrence’s Joy.

It’s another David O. Russell collaboration (with Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro), which we like for the most part. We don’t drink the David O. Russell kool-aid quite as often as Hollywood does these days, Silver Linings Playbook was an incredible movie and we’re never totally disappointed by his films.

Argh, Jen. She’s just so good! People worried about her playing an older character, BUT NO. She’s got it just fine, thank you very much! We’ve seen her play a badass before, but this is a different kind of badass and we think it’ll be a really refreshing piece of entertainment.

The trailer also does a great job setting up the story of Joy Mangano, a single mother who slowly rose through the ranks to become a major business mogul and learned some hard lessons along the way.

Then we’ve got Liam Hemsworth in The Dressmaker.

Clearly, this is Kate Winslet’s movie. It’s a bit romantic and Hemsy is there to be the man of the hour / swoony eye candy. But damn, it works.

Observe!

We realized something about this movie that we love– It’s the first movie we can think of in which Liam seems to be portraying an actual adult. He’s been in action movies, romantic movies, crime thrillers, but he’s always been the up-and-coming kid. This time, his character looks older, acts older (from what we saw here), and nobody references him as the kid rising through the ranks. Is he actually… playing his around his own age?! IN HOLLYWOOD?! *faints*

If romantic dramas are your cup of tea, this looks like a perfectly cute film to watch. There’s some great actors in there and seeing Liam stretch himself a bit more than his previous film roles have allowed could be fun. Hell, maybe he’ll even be a plausible romantic lead this time! Not to say that he’s not plausible in a romantic coupling, just that most of the other movies he’s been in haven’t had convincing couplings from the scripting stage on.

So yes, BE EXCITED ABOUT MOCKINGJAY PART 2 stuff! But we love seeing the cast in other things too. And these trailer are kinda big deals to us!

Let’s Be Excited About ALL THE THINGS!

REACTION POST: Mockingjay Part 2 Trailer

We’ve got a Mcokingjay Part 2 trailer and lots of new feels along with it!

To celebrate our first glimpse at the franchise finale, we’re presenting you with another zany reaction post! We’ve got a lot to say about the new trailer, so let the gushing begin!

Oh, and this sucker is pretty long, so don’t forget to click READ MORE the see the whole thing.

THE FEELING IS BACK!

THE GIRL WITH THE PEARL: So how does this trailer stack up against the mountain of other THG trailers we’ve seen?

JJ: It’s right at the top for me. I love the teaser and theatrical trailers for CF, and this one made me feel that same level of astonishment/amazement.

normal_Mockingjay-Part2-Unite024TGWTP: I’m in the same boat. The second CF trailer was my favorite up until now, but I think this one actually beats it!

JJ: That feeling of “THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EVEN DREAMED. PRAISE FRANCIS LAWRENCE” type of feeling. I didn’t quite get it with the MJ1 trailers. But now it’s back, baby!

THEM THERE EYES: Not joking, I’ve had to go back and watch them all… I tend to forget.

TGWTP: Nina and Francis got harassed about wanting an amazing trailer a lot on Twitter. WE DO NOT APPROVE OF THIS. Buuuut they certainly delivered!

TTE: I wonder if they have the same team on the trailers?

JJ: It varies. I believe this one was by Trailer Park. But they’ve had different companies work on them.

TGWTP: I have no idea. The teams behind trailers obviously need way more credit than they get.

JJ: But it was just overall well done. The structure, the shots they chose, it gave us hints at a lot of scenes throughout the movie… but not TOO much.

TTE: Yes, even the music they choose to buy, and sample from the scores are perfectly placed.

WEDDING FEELS HIDDEN BEHIND SOME SERIOUS HAIR

normal_Mockingjay-Part2-Unite017TGWTP: How many feels did you have when you realized it began with the wedding scene?

JJ: THAT was a great choice.

TGWTP: I made an uncomfortable gaspy-sob sound that was probably not meant to come out of a human.

JJ: First, it just LOOKED beautiful, but then you realize what it actually is, and as a fan, you’re hooked in completely from the start. And Katniss’s voiceover for that moment is so perfect. Well played.

TTE: Well, the first time I viewed it I was in a hot car, watching it on my cell phone… but I had the sound up on my car’s stereo… so that made it kind of dramatic in probably not the way they wanted it to be… for me at least.

TGWTP: I must admit though… I didn’t notice Johanna in that scene until about the fifth time I watched it. Too distracted by Effie’s Edward Scissorhands hair

JJ: I didn’t notice her either. But that doesn’t take points away for me. There will be moments with Johanna later, I’m sure.

TTE: I didn’t see her! *runs off to pause video like crazy person*

TGWTP: How could you behind Effie’s flair, really? Though man… Jena is handling that bald cap like a champ in the scene when you DO notice her

TTE: Oh, there she is… ten seconds in, over Effie’s shoulder.

normal_Mockingjay-Part2-Unite081TGWTP: And did you guys notice that when we finally see Katniss talked to Coin, she’s still got the bruises on her throat?! *weeps* Then you realize that her voice sounds REALLY ROUGH.

JJ: Yes, the bruises are a great detail. And her voice. Poor dear.

TTE: I was about to say “Her voice sounds really trashed.”

TGWTP: Obviously, we know the story picks up immediately after Peeta’s attack. But knowing and seeing are way different

JJ: “Snow has to pay for what he’s done…” Cue Lionsgate logo lol

TGWTP: BAM!

EFF YOU, SPEECHES!

TGWTP: I also find it funny that Katniss says “I can’t make another speech about it…” and then is launches into her District 2 speech shortly thereafter lol

JJ: “Can’t” versus “God help me I DON’T WANT TO”

TTE: I think that’s on purpose! she’s very speech-y.

JJ: But Katniss, you do some pretty good speeches. Impromptu is hard to do after all.

TGWTP: Exactly. Poor girl is just like “NO MORE FUCKING SPEECHES! LET ME TAKE OUT MY RAGE ON THE BATTLEFIELD.”

Mockingjay Part 2 Logo Win

After much fandom flailing, Lionsgate released that Mockingjay Part 2 teaser that’s running in front of Insurgent in theaters!

And no surprise, it’s a logo reveal.

However, this is a good logo reveal!

Yes, because we managed our expectations, we were able to enjoy this quite a bit! As far as logo reveals go, this is one of the better ones out there. It could have been silent besides some sound effects or a little hum of the score in the background, not offering much for the fans to enjoy. Sure, the visual is cool, but it was cool when we all saw it at the end of Mockingjay Part 1 too. We needed more and we got something.

The title, “Remember”, actually seems relevant now. It wasn’t just a reference to one quote, but rather a boatload of nostalgia stuffed into 44 seconds. As it cycles through popular quotes from the previous films, you’re able to think back on them pretty fondly but you’re also able to anticipate a new Mockingjay Part 2 quote that’s probably coming. AND IT DOES!

“Tonight, turn your weapons to the Capitol!”

It’s probably not the most exciting line from the whole movie, we admit. But it does fit in with the theme for these quotes, which seems to be the way the Panem audiences (and to a point, real audiences) are seeing this story play out. Also, it gets you a little riled up because Katniss is clearly riled up as she says it. We hoped for a more famous book quote, but it’ll do.

Annnnnnd we now know the next teaser is coming with Age of Adaline and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, so now is the time for the fandom to feel good!

Tonight, turn your fandom feels to the Internet!
