Our Leader The Mockingjay

Let’s Go Scan Stuff

This morning the app Our Leader the Mockingjay got a new facet, a partnership with Doritos. Yaaaaay! Okay, maybe not a yay, but if you’re into snack food doused in electric orange powdered cheese, that inevitibly will get all over your hands, and your clothes, and make you look a fright– yay to those people! Doritos love or not, the newly launched section of Our Leader the Mockingjay’s app is pretty darn snazzy, well more so after you’re able d13targetto scan a bag of Doritos and unlock the entire, shiny, new schematic of District 13! Yeah, that’s what scanning nacho flavored corn chips gets us! A 3D map of the underground world of District 13.

I’m not a big app person, in fact the apps on my phone are pretty practical. Like the CNN app, the Google app, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (of course), and the more frivolous ones, Pinterest, and Flixter (Rotten Tomatoes app). I downloaded the = This is the best thing on the app– BUTTERCUP[/caption]Our Leader the Mockingjay app though, and well– if you’re like me and don’t use your cell phone to keep you occupied all the damn time, it’s kind of a foreign thing– more like I’m staring at it, flipping through everything that’s there to the best of my knowledge and going, “so does it do anything? Can I get movie times? Pin stuff? What?” I’m not over the moon about this app in other words, because it’s geared to the lot of people out there who love playing with their phones! Me? I use my phone as a communication tool, and a tool for getting information.

More power to the boring people! Just be November already, I’m not a game-y/app-y person– I just want to watch the damn movie!

I’ll go back to my hole now.

This is the best thing on the app-- BUTTERCUP

What’s Going Down on September 10?

We are all wondering what will be revealed on September 10. Based on some now-deleted social posts from Lionsgate, at least one thing MAY be another poster.  Which we hope has Katniss’s face. Because we really like Katniss’s facial expressions.

Just four of the many Katniss facial expressions that we love.

Just four of the many Katniss facial expressions that we love.

We live for Katniss’s facial expressions. At the very least, what is being released on Wednesday has something to do with Our Leader the Mockingjay. So that’s cool. We’re excited.

But is there anything else in store? Say, for example, something that starts with a Tr and rhymes with Paylor? And maybe has a shot of Paylor in it? Well we just got a really big clue that…. it will not.

According to the trailer listings for US theaters this week, the Mockingjay teaser trailer from July will continue to be shown. There is no new trailer listed. So if a new trailer is released this week, it won’t be in US theaters unless there’s some last-minute magic in store. And it would be VERY surprising to release a trailer online and not have it shown in theaters that weekend. Not totally impossible. Just surprising.

Crazy, surprising things can happen in the world, so who knows what Lionsgate has in store. But it’s probably best to prepare yourselves for NO trailer on Wednesday. (And if some crazy surprise does happen then it will make it even sweeter and you can dance around and cry and scream with joy).

So will it just be a poster on Wednesday? Or something more? At least we have less than two days to wait and wonder on this particular question.

If not Wed, we have a really really good feeling about next week.

Sufficiently Teased. Like REALLY REALLY WELL TEASED.

Every week, a new tease to enjoy on our road to November 21. Yesterday we got a cool poster of our long-awaited favorite, OUR LEADER THE MOCKINGJAY.

Turn around...

Turn around…

It was just of her back, which is yet again a huge tease, cause we would love to see our heroine’s actual face sometime in the near future. But there was a lot of great symbolism that you could draw from her body position, and the poster itself.

Along with the poster we were teased that Our Leader the Mockingjay would return on Wednesday, September 10 with something new. Rejoice!

People were overjoyed thinking it meant that the trailer would be revealed on that day. But one day later, now there is doubt and rumor and uncertainty again. It seems pretty clear going through the various social networks.

The fans are so tired, Katniss.

Movie marketing is all about the tease. You can’t reveal too much or people complain. You reveal too little and people complain. There is a very delicate balance. And fans can only take so much teasing before they get really angry or stop believing all together.

Today I was bemoaning the use of the word “soon” to talk about when things were coming because “soon” is so open to personal interpretation. I know we all wish we had more concrete details on what to expect so we could prepare sufficiently. What we do know – something new will be revealed on Wednesday. It’s extremely likely to be Katniss related (YAY KATNISS REMEMBER WE LOVE HER?).

But it’s also likely that what happens on Wednesday will be a tease for something else down the road, so it’s best we brace ourselves for continued emotional turmoil. It seems to be the theme around here.

I think Katniss would be a really good Batman, btw.

The Mockingjay: There’s An App For That

So remember when Victor’s Village and a bunch of other sites got a load of mysterious photos with the Mockingjay symbol all over them? We found out what that’s all about! And it’s… an app!

Yes, yes, yes.. it’s a little underwhelming, all things considered. As a fandom, we wan every hint out there to be leading to either a trailer or something that lets us interact with the cast. Mostly a trailer. But NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE A TRAILER. And maybe someday, we’ll kinda sorta learn that.

We briefly perused the “Our Leader The Mockingjay” app and learned a few things!

First, Our Leader The Mockingjay wants bright, even surfaces on which to stick her mark. It can’t just go anywhere. The rebels have STANDARDS, dammit! So in order to get that rebellious Mockingjay out in the open, we stuck it on the first surface that the scanner accepted in a small, poorly lit home.

Ladies and gentlemen, we present… The MockingToilet!

unnamed

We would have gone around marking the Mockingjay on all our random shizz, but– as those of you who have already used the app may have noticed– we took a screenshot instead of saving this baby.

There’s a reason for that: When you save and share your OLTM image, it also allows people nearby to see your location. You can see theirs as well, but they don’t even have to create an image in order for them to see yours first. That’s right… If you’re taking and sharing photos in a private space, you are giving other people permission to stalk you. Take your pics in a public, common, perhaps even touristy place that will NOT lead them to your home or very close to it. Stranger danger!

Alternatively, you can do what this fan did… besides make us feel second-hand embarrassment and laugh so hard we almost peed ourselves a little.

This method is always an option, but probably not very useful to someone who feels like tracking you down anyway.

You got your warnings, so now GO GET THE APP.

Overall, we’re glad that the rebellion side of things is starting to pick up as we get closer and closer to release day (THREE MONTHS, GUYS!) We would have preferred a propo, but maybe that will happen the next time we get teased about something big? Maybe? Maybe? Pleeeeeease?

Our Leader the Mockingjay

Over the last two days the internet has been inundated with photos featuring the hashtag #OLTM, an acronym for Our Leader the Mockingjay. The photos have been spread, and shared all over social media, from Tumblr, to Twitter, to Facebook, and of course Instagram. The photos them selves started out pretty broad, pretty scenes from famous locations across the globe, places like the Great Wall of China, Times Square in New York City. And then they started to get less predictable in location, or– they became photos featuring indiscernible buildings, and landscapes that lacked mundane clues to their specific locations. Corrogated steel sided buildings, graffiti covered walls.

The photos have been steadily streaming in over the last day, and they’ve been diligently collected by most, or all prominent Hunger Games fan sites. Every time a new photo was shared by a fan site or sometimes a seemingly random Hunger Games fan usually known through Twitter, all the fan sites like Welcome to District Twelve for example, would latch on to it, and post it for the masses to gobble up, and spit out. This morning, to be honest, I was starting to wonder when Victors Village would be sent an email containing our stock photo, decaled with the now almost infamous hashtag, and phrase. It showed up though, and I honestly don’t know where the photo was taken, or what it’s of. But who cares! We got one! Yaaaay!!

-1

Perhaps the most important detail has yet to be addressed however? There’s a series of number, a date actually, that has accompanied all of these photos– 21.08.14. Also known as August 21st, 2014– tomorrow to be precise. The question on everyone’s finger tips, and lips, and brains is this though–

What’s happening tomorrow? Also, why did Liam Hemsworth decide to wear a Ninja Turtle costume when he accepted, and did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?

Our Leader The Mockingjay Gets Charitable

Around mid-to-late July every year, we silently weep to ourselves because we’ve never been to Comic-Con and as such, we’ve never received an awesome limited edition Hunger Games Comic-Con poster like this year’s “Our Leader The Mockingjay”.

Proof o’ signature

But it turns out that there is some good to come out of all that exclusivity: A little bit of charity that will go a long way.

Lionsgate, as it has since the first film, is auctioning off five of those exclusive posters signed by Natalie Dormer, Evan Ross, Elden Henson, Mahershala Ali, and Wes Chatham benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Iiiiiiitty bitty signing space!

First thing we noticed? As awesome as the artwork is, it apparently makes the poster REALLY difficult to sign! The design is so busy that everyone’s signature is crammed into the margins.

Still, this whole thing is awesome. When things aren’t exclusive just for the sake of exclusivity, it feels good to know that fans can get their hands on it to support a cause, to get what you want be more than a rabid fan collecting things. Yes, bid starts at $100 and that gives fans with money a distinct advantage, but it least other Hunger Games related charitable projects in the past have used Prizeo in the past, which is raffle based.

Yeah, we’re selfish by nature and want ALL THE THINGS. But not getting them all is helping aid the lives a young people with a frightening disease, in this case, so can we really complain? Sometimes, keeping things rare and valuable is actually a good thing!
