The Mockingjay Clip That Left Us With One Wish

Have you been hiding in an underground bunker recently? If so, you my not know this already, but… THE FIRST MOCKINGJAY CLIP IS HERE! And it’s a heart-wrencher!

OBSERVE!

For people who don’t know the books, this clip is misleading. It almost looks like Peeta is friendly with Caesar Flickerman and possibly even enjoying their conversation. Sure, you can hear the hitch in his voice, but someone might assume it’s because of the tense subject– the surprise ending of the Quarter Quell. His tone could even represent his disappointment in what Katniss did and shiny new alliance with The Capitol. But we also think this clip is meant to be misleading.

Of course, we know better, but think about it: Katniss is really the one person who believes that Peeta isn’t willingly working in conjunction with the Capitol. The audience shouldn’t fully believe that he’s being held against his will, either. We’ll see Katniss advocating his innocence constantly, slowly the audience will start to believe her despite every other character being skeptical because she’s the protagonist, only to see him attempt to murder her somewhere toward the end, and it’ll be a glass case of emotion, Ron Burgundy style.

I’m imagining that clip wise, we probably won’t see much Peeta outside of this one. Because it sets up that “Wait.. is Peeta a traitor now?” mindset that will make moviegoers eager to solve the mystery. Anything to negate that would be kind of counter-productive. Of course, that doesn’t mean other clips won’t mention Peeta. He’s kind of a big discussion point in this one and scenes discussing what should be done with him will be pretty spoiler-free on the grand scale of the story.

Another thing we’re loving about this? The dialogue is very, very similar to the book. With this script, screenwriters seem to have really taken the time to figure out what quotes from the book really work on film rather than simply trying to rephrase everything. We think it’s a really nice homage to the original story.

The Catching Fire Clip Show

Catching Fire press overload has begun! BRING IT, BABY!

We know that it can be daunting for some, but we personally love soaking in all the teasers before the movie actually hits theaters. Most fans will turn around in a week and say “It feels like we’ve seen half the movie already!” Well, ya haven’t and you’ll realize that once you get out the theater!

As much as we love interviews, we’re in it for the REAL goods… That’s right: CLIPS. Sweet, delicious angst-dipped morsels of movie magic! Unlike trailers, it’s more than 5 seconds per shot and you really get to feel the moment!

We’ve been graced with two clips in the last couple days. Now let’s get together and drool over them!

Clip #1 – “You Do What You Want. I’m Staying Here.”

As introduced by Hemsy and The Chin (after confirming that Liam does not, in fact, have sex with kangaroos), clip #1 shows Katniss and Gale debating whether or not to run away from District 12.

Gale doesn’t seem as fervently anti-Capitol in his pursuits to protect the districts as he is in the books. Perhaps the raging ripping off of leather gloves just didn’t have the same effect on screen?! But alas, the cross-marketing opportunity of Gale angrily turning away Capitol Couture products has been missed! Forever sad! Then again, this obviously isn’t the WHOLE scene, just a pretty chunk.

But for real, guys… Katniss effing Everdeen. She doesn’t want anyone looking to her! She can’t help them! And we totally believe her helplessness in that moment, even though we know she’s dead wrong in the long run.

That girl had our emotions all in a tizzy until our attentions were turned to the Capitol brigade and their gas-guzzling ways!

Also, we feel like we should be writing free verse poetry about the gray barrenness of District 12… and possibly these characters’ lives. Just because.

Clip #2 – “This Trip Doesn’t End When You Go Back Home.”

Catching Fire Clip

Damn Haymitch! Time for three snaps in Z formation as you tell these n00b victors what it’s all about! Winning The Hunger Games is (usually) a one-time deal, but being a victor is FOREVER.

Note that both Haymitch and Peeta are not in the loop about Katniss’ debacle in film world, which probably means Peeta doesn’t have a massive meltdown about being kept in the dark all the time. But he still seems pretty damn pissed, which gives us a look at the appropriately bolder Peeta that’s more in line with the books.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is really good at crying. She cries on cue like a boss! And it’s tearing up our hearts into little teeny shreds! Katniss will be emotionally shot for 90% of this movie, which means we will be too. Dammit!

#TickTock7: The Catching Fire Control Center

Citizens of Panem, it is time to report to The Citizen Control Center for the Quarterly Census! It’s #TICKTOCK7, y’all!

That’s right, TheCapitol.PN is open once again! After being closed for maintenance for several months, The Capitol’s internet technology has certainly improved. My browser may not always like it, but it’s all flashy and high-tech!

Featured in all of the hubaloo is OMG A NEW CLIP FEATURING THE VICTORS TRAINING!

Katniss Catching Fire Training

CLICK TO WITNESS THE GLORY!

It’s short and silent, if you don’t count the grunting, but the improved visual effects have got us all riled up. Add in some sweet weapons skills (Finnick with his trident!) and the menacing look of all the victors, even Katniss, and you’ve got a recipe for an intimidating training session. It could have gotten very montage-y, but we are SO GLAD it didn’t!

Now your D.I.P. kinda looks like your license!

The new page also features new District Identification Passes, Panem Dispatch news, connects to District social networks, real time district population and activity stats, and the ability to sponsor your favorite victor!

We’re pyshced to see the more sophisticated look of The Capitol, especially knowing that the film is reaching toward the same goal. The question is: Can it last?

We loved TheCapitol.PN the first time around, but after the initial launch it was never really updated, so you were tapped out after one or two visits. Lionsgate’s real challenge this time around is to keep The Citizen Control Center, as its newly been dubbed, a place that fans can explore over and over again with new, fresh content. Maybe some clips? Looks into the behind the scenes action, perhaps? Stills? Anything to keep the content from getting old after a few days! We know you can do it!
