Eating Your Way To The Hunger Games

I think by now the message of The Hunger Games trilogy is pretty ingrained in our brains, right? That gluttony is bad, and that the haves and have-nots should be less pronounced. Welp, apparently someone didn’t get the message.

CandylandThere’s this contest being put on in Canada. And by the way this is no dig at Canada, it’s– I don’t know what it is really. Perhaps shock and awe? So, the contest is this– Snack Your Way to LA, where the object of the game is to take a photo of specific snack food items UPC codes, and send enter them into this handy-dandy little entry form thingie. Awesome, right? Um yeah, only if you’re oblivious and can’t see the irony in a context to win prizes, and tickets to see Mockingjay– involves the excesses of snack food, the least nutritious food on the mass market, BTW— good luck.

Slow clap for the genius who didn’t think backwards or forwards when they came up with this one. ‘Cause I’m about ready to forfeit my common sense, and call this quite possibly the best joke since Subway had a partnership with Lionsgate and The Hunger Games franchise. What is going on with people’s brains on this one?! Do they not get that the series has a message, a message that belittles, and looks down on excess, and well– um, contests for that matter?

I give up… hold you’re ridiculous contests, forget that The Hunger Games is the opposite of snack food material. Don’t ask people to think, just have ’em eat chocolate ’til they burst. Just once… ONCE I’d like to see a robustly sponsored prize for this franchise involve something altruistic, something good, something decent.

Until then… we’ve got snack food to take pictures of.

Charity and Mockingjay Set Visits

Who wants to visit the Mockingjay set? Sorry, that was a dumb question. Of course you want to visit the Mockingjay set, unless you are one of those severely spoiler-phobic people who doesn’t want to know any details about the film until you actually see it (in which case, you’ll probably want to stay away from 75% of the posts on this site, cause obsessing over every detail is kind of what we do.)

You could end up witnessing a Mockingjay version of this moment!

You could end up witnessing a Mockingjay version of this moment!

But rejoice, because now for the low-low price of a $10 charitable donation you can enter to win a trip to the Mockingjay set and tour with producer Jon Kilik. There are several donation levels that get you varying entries in the contest and before you complain to me that you don’t have any money, there is a free entry option if you read the fine print.  And it’s an even sweeter prize when you consider air travel and hotel  are included from virtually anywhere in the world – there are some exclusions, so again, read the fine print.

According to the prize administrator’s website,

Jon will personally show you around, introduce you to some of the cast members who are working that day, watch behind the scenes and have lunch with you on set.

You know those DVD features we all went nuts for? It’s a chance to get some of that IN PERSON. *Commence heavy breathing* Ok, I need to calm down.

Or this!

Or this!

Entries are weighted based on the amount of charitable contribution in a kind of reverse-tesserae scenario. So it’s true, if you don’t donate much, the odds aren’t in your favor. But hey, Prim only had her name in once. It can happen. And if you don’t win the trip, well, you just made a charitable donation. You’re a winner in the Generosity Olympics. You can feel good about that.

If you’ve got more cash to throw around, you can enter an auction to win a non-speaking extra role in Mockingjay though at a current bid of $8,500, that’s quite a financial commitment for most of us. Though even if I were super-rich I don’t think I would do this one because I would be afraid that my mere presence in the movie would screw it up somehow. I don’t need that kind of guilt hanging over me.

Beyond how awesome it would be to actually win this set visit or be in the actual movie, the contest reveals some clues about production.  The Charitybuzz site with the walk-on role auction says that shooting will continue in Atlanta until April 18, so presumably filming will shift to Europe after that.  Travel dates for the set visit with Jon Kilik are either April 14, 15, or 16.  You know that MTV Movie Awards shindig that’s happening on April 13? Well, these dates still leave it open that some of the cast may be attending if you consider that April 14 is a travel day, not a set visit day.

So if you’re inclined, go ahead and enter/bid. And may the odds…. you know the rest.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Premiere Ticket Giveaway Winner

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a #TickTock11 winner!

TT11_V4

We had an amazing amount of participation of our Catching Fire Premiere Ticket giveaway, but there could only be one winner! We chose the winner at random (Good thing, too! There were too many great entries to choose just one!) and we’re thrilled to announce the winner!

CONGRATULATIONS, ANNIE B.!

Annie has won two tickets to the US Premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in Los Angeles, courtesy of Lionsgate and Victor’s Village!

Though the pick was random, Annie’s entry was really inspiring. Take a look!

To me The Hunger Games means second chances, a new beginning and hope. Before I found the trilogy I was really struggling with life. Nothing made sense, I was so unhappy and angry and sad all of the time. Come to find out I had a rare form of depression. It only got worse after that, I felt like I was a freak and i became even more sad and angry to the point where life had little meaning to me. Finally while sitting in study hall almost 3 and a half years ago I picked up the first book and my life changed from there. Every aspect of my life has changed since reading those books. It gave me hope and strength and reason to keep living no matter how hard life gets. I will find myself in various situations and I will tell myself to be Katniss, be strong because you know, know small task is to much to handle. To see Katniss and Peeta and the rest of the victors come out of the experiences so scarred both emotionally and physically showed to me that hope is not lost. I will forever be so grateful to Suzanne Collins and the entire film organization for creating the world that save my life.

Tick Tock, Another Countdown Is On the Clock

Catching Fire has been trending on the World Wide Twitter trends board off and on all day, and it’s all due to a few things that happened today. If you’ve been at work all day, Smartphone in a drawer, or no access to the Internet at all, The Hunger Games Explorer broke loose like an Easter egg, releasing a whole bunch of goodies on us.

1st we got the news, with links, to the first single off The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack, yep– the already much teased to “Atlas” by the British band Coldplay. There’s even a handy-dandy contest for the lyrics sheet that the head songwriter, and band leader of Coldplay hand wrote, in the mix. So, if you’re a sucker for Coldplay, or contemporary music memorabilia, I suggest you follow the rules, and try your best to get that piece of paper. You probably know the deal by now, but participating involves having a Twitter account, and the copious use of the hashtag #TickTock12. And now I must share the unfortunate place my brain goes when ever I hear the phrase, or read the phrase, “tick tock…” Click now, or forever hold your peace. You’re about to lose your minds.

2nd, up we had the preemptive news, or better yet, information, that those of us who are the thinking-ahead types, will have the option to pre-order their tickets to finally see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Yeah, it’s not exactly a chocolate covered treat, but sometimes practicality has it’s place, especially if you’re one of the people who will be

Peeta, where ya' been all my life!? Inside Suzanne Collins' head!

Peeta, where ya’ been all my life!? Inside Suzanne Collins’ head! Damn.

traveling a far distance to see the film. I say that because I know of several parties who are traveling super super far to see the film with friends, and I mean crossing oceans kind of far. Any who, October the 1st, tickets will be available for pre-order. Have your credit and debit cards at the ready you saucy minxes.

Third, yep… there was a third. It’s like Chanukkah, I know! Where are my peanuts, and my set of crappy pens? Finally some stills of all of the principle cast, and most of the supporting cast as well. They include the likes of Beetee (Jeffrey Wright, who you can catch on Boardwalk Empire within the next few weeks), Enobaria, a knife wielding Gloss, his cunning looking sister Cashmere also wielding a knife, a hard faced Brutus, and in contrast a brightly smiling Mags, and of course– a snarky faced Finnick, dimples dimpling. All the usual suspects were included in the run down, yep even a purple belted Plutarch. But, alas again no Woof– but do you really think Woof would make the cut? His name is Woof? Whatever, we got twenty stills to fawn over like idiots!

Stay frosty, there are eleven other eggs to be cracked open! Bring on #TickTock11.
